Turnip Bake Recipe

A mouth-watering turnip and potato bake

Turnip and potato bake. Cooked with cream, garlic and thyme. Rich vegetable side-dish.

Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) turnip
1 lb (450 g) potatoes
1 oz (25 g) butter
1 clove garlic
1 tbsp fresh thyme
1 bay leaf
16 fl oz (500 ml) double cream
salt
freshly milled black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Prepare the vegetables
Preheat oven to 200oC (400oF/gas mark 6). Rub a large shallow baking dish with butter. Peel and cut the turnips and potatoes into slices. Crush the garlic and chop the thyme. In a bowl mix the vegetable slices, garlic, thyme, salt and pepper to taste.

Bake
Gently heat the cream and bay leaf but do not allow to boil. Place the vegetable slices in the baking dish. Cover with the warmed cream and dot with butter. Bake in the oven for 50 minutes.

Serves 4 people
Served hot as a side-dish
