Traditional French Turnip and Pumpkin Soup Recipe

A delicious French turnip soup

Creamy, velvety turnip, leek and potato soup cooked with a pumpkin puree. Served with cream.


3 white turnips
1 medium baking potato
2 leeks
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp olive oil
4 cups chicken stock
1 15 oz can pure pumpkin puree
1/3 cup double cream
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Prepare vegetables
Remove the darkest green part of the leeks and thinly slice the remainder. Peel and cube the turnips and potato. Sauté the leeks in butter for 8 minutes, stirring often. Add the potatoes and turnip cubes and sauté for a further 4 minutes.

Cook the soup
Stir in the chicken stock and pumpkin puree. Add salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes until the vegetables are soft. Puree soup in a food processor or blender. Return soup to saucepan, stir in the cream and heat through.

Serve in hot bowls.
