Sweet Caramelised Turnips Recipe

A sweet turnip side dish

Turnips caramelised in olive oil and brown sugar. Served as a simple vegetable side-dish garnished with chopped nuts.


1 1/2 lb turnips
1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
1 tbsp olive oil
1 cup water
chopped nuts (optional)

Recipe Instructions

Cook the turnips
Peel the turnips and chop into medium sized chunks, In a large saucepan heat the olive oil and add the turnips. Fry for around 10 minutes until starting to brown. Add the brown sugar and continue to cook for a further 30 seconds to allow the turnips to start to caramelise. Add the water and some salt to taste, bring to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes, until all the liquid has been absorbed. Turnips should be tender.

Serve hot sprinkled with chopped nuts if using.
