Mashed Turnips Recipe

A simple vegetable side dish

Turnips mashed with olive oil and milk. Served as a simple vegetable side-dish.


8 medium turnips
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup milk
freshly milled black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Prepare the turnips
Peel the turnips and cut into quarters. Put in a large saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil and cook for 10 minutes or until tender. Test with a sharp knife. Drain with a colander and put back into the pot. Over a low heat add olive oil. Once oil is warm add the turnips, salt and pepper to taste and mash well. Turnips can also be broken up lightly with a fork. Add the milk and continue to mash. Turnips should be smooth and creamy.

Serves 4 people
Served as a hot vegetable side-dish.
