Low Fat Sweet Potato and Turnip Soup Recipe

A low fat recipe for the health-conscious

Easy turnip and sweet potato soup flavoured with rosemary. Served as a warm, hearty winter soup.


1 large turnip
2 white potatoes
1 sweet potato
1 leek
1 medium red onion
2 quarts vegetable stock or water
1 tbsp fresh chopped rosemary
freshly milled black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Prepare vegetables
Chop onion and cut the top dark green parts of the leek. Wash and dice. Sauté the onions and leeks in a little water in a large saucepan until soft. Peel and dice the potatoes and turnips.

Cook the soup
Add the turnips and potatoes to the soup and stir well. Add a little of the stock and allow to stew for 5 minutes. Stir gently. Add the rest of the stock and the rosemary, and allow to simmer for 15 minutes until potatoes and turnip are soft. Puree half the soup in a food processor or blender. Add back in to the pot and bring back to the boil. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serve in hot bowls.
