2 turnips, peeled and chopped
2 medium onions, quartered
3 large potatoes, peeled and potatoes
3 medium carrots, chopped
1 whole chicken, quartered
1 bunch turnip greens, chopped (optional)
20 g small pasta (optional)
red wine vinegar
Prepare vegetables and chicken
Put the chicken, turnips, potatoes and carrots in a large saucepan. Add water to cover. Add a large pinch of salt. Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for around 20 minutes
Cook the soup
Add the pasta and turnip greens if using and cook until the pasta is al dente. Add salt to taste. Remove the chicken pieces and shred. Add chicken meat back into the soup.
Put soup in bowls and add a splash of lemon or red wine vinegar. Tabasco or pepper can also be added to taste.
